Strawberries were planted in the snow!

We have three hydroponics systems set up and maintained by the Ambridge Ecology Club:

     1. Ebb and Flow System (Eddie) - growing peppers and tomatoes!

     2. Drip System (Drippy) - growing ever-bearing day-neutral strawberries!

     3. Nutrient Film Technique System (Gunther) - growing juicy lettuces!

1. Ebb and Flow System (Eddie)

Our Ebb and Flow system consists of a small resevoir which contains a nurient rich water solution that is then pumped upward through a series of tubes into the plant growing medium.  Our growing medium consists of absorbent Hydroton hydroponic rock and 3x3 inch RockWool cubes.  Within our Rock Wool cubes we have growing various types of tomatoes and peppers, including Big Beefy, Roma tomatoes, green bell peppers, and hot and spicy peppers.  The nutrient solution then drains back into the resevoir after the pump is switched off by our electronic timer.  Our Ebb and Flow System is lit by a 1100 watt full spectrum bulb that is on a 12/12 light cycle.

2. Drip System (Drippy)

Our Drip system was designed and build by the Ambridge Area High School Technology Eductation Department students.
